The premier Southeast Asian art calendar hits a new crescendo this autumn as Art Jakarta 2026 opens its doors at JIExpo Kemayoran from October 2–4.

Art is rarely just about what hangs on a wall; it’s about the currents of conversation, disruption, and community that swell up around it. This October, Southeast Asia’s dynamic contemporary art ecosystem will converge in the Indonesian capital once again for Art Jakarta 2026.

Under the guidance of Artistic Director Enin Supriyanto, the fair has evolved its rhythm. Following a year structured around distinct thematic anchor points—including Art Jakarta Papers and Art Jakarta Gardens—the flagship international art fair arrives as the grand meeting point for regional exchange, network-building, and fresh creative encounters.

A Growing Regional Footprint

This year’s edition scales up significantly, welcoming 75 galleries to the floor at JIExpo Kemayoran. Over half of these are homegrown Indonesian spaces, joined by 33 international galleries including an impressive 19 first-time participants. This influx underscores a widening global appetite for contemporary practices emerging from Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asian corridor.

“Art Jakarta must continue to serve as a space where visual arts stakeholders in the region can meet, exchange information and knowledge, build networks, and collaborate,” Supriyanto notes.

Expanding Boundaries: SCOPE, SCENE, and AJX

Art Jakarta 2026 continues to push past the traditional white-cube booth setup through several distinct curated sections:

• SCOPE (New for 2026): Developed alongside the National Talent Management for Arts and Culture (MTN Seni Budaya) under the Ministry of Culture, this program brings independent, emerging art fairs and local art communities from across the Indonesian archipelago to the national stage. Visitors can look forward to grassroots representation from regional hubs like Mini Art Malang, Artists Art Fair (Pekanbaru), ART HEY (Banyumas), Maa Ledungga (Gorontalo), Hello Goodbye Photo Market (Bekasi), and the Watercolor Art Fair (Yogyakarta).
• SCENE: Shifting the spotlight toward grassroots resilience and alternative working methods, this section features 39 artist collectives and collaborative projects hailing from diverse cities across Indonesia.
• AJX & International Dialogues: Demonstrating the fair’s outward-looking ethos, Korea Focus returns for its second consecutive year, bringing 14 South Korean galleries in collaboration with the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Management Service. Meanwhile, Bali’s Natta-Cita Art Space (N-CAS) highlights the contemporary output of artist-academics from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Bali.

One of Art Jakarta’s signature charms is how it sutures contemporary art into lifestyle, design, and commerce.
This year’s Lead and Main Partners bring museum-quality special presentations to the floor:

• Julius Baer celebrates its 20th anniversary in Asia and its fifth year supporting the fair by transforming its VIP Lounge with works by Handiwirman Saputra, including pieces from his Penampang Taut Berpilin series and an interactive work titled Kuasa Alam (The Might of Nature).
• Bibit and Stockbit present Lost at Sea—a thoughtful raft installation by Yogyakarta artist Endry Pragusta that invites audiences to reflect on resilience through writing and origami.
• Treasury Art Prize winner Etza Meisyara exhibits Gravity of the Unheld, an intermedial exploration of gold that transcends its physical commodity value.
• iForte & Protelindo Group team up with Agnes Hansella for Hutan Kabel, breathing artistic life into discarded industrial cables to form an immersive, sculptural landscape.
• AIA introduces The Living Legacy, a special collaboration honoring the timeless textiles of batik maestro Iwan Tirta.
• Other exciting crossovers include EDISII showcasing rare print portfolios by Ugo Untoro, Sunaryo, and Agus Suwage; Aesop presenting the Aesop Women’s Library; and MINI fusing automotive design with the personal concept of “destination” via a Paul Smith collaboration.
